marinabeauvais: (Well)
Hey, I'm Pantha, a Person of Very Little Consequence. Simply put: if anyone has any questions regarding Marina, Danni, the Alliteration Association, or Dino, please don't hesitate to ask them below! Just...umm, please be gentle? xD

(Questions about me and my roleplaying are also fair game, by the way, though the above request also tries to apply.)
marinabeauvais: (Well)
Summary: Just a drabble to commemorate me finally finishing the Silver Tree.

It has been years, so many years, since they had seen the face of God.

"So many years that some people are beginning to forget, to turn away from the truth," her grandmother had said to her, the night she left for somewhere across the vast black waters, wider than the largest lake (but never, never, larger than the sky). "We must leave before it's too late. Some are already enthralled, are using cowardly ways." The old woman made a disgusted face, spit on the lacred ground. "Like snakes, all of them. They have forgotten the ways of the wolf! Subtle, savage! But never cowards. Are you sure you do not wish to leave?"

It was tempting, she would admit. But she had to hope, had to keep believing, had to do her duty. Lose hope in Him, and stop guiding his people? Never. Never. The notion was as foolish as horses eating meat. The day she lost all hope, the day she gave into the ruin that slowly crept up onto her beloved city, twisting it into a shadow of its glory even more, mocking it, was the day she would finally lie on the earth, waiting for her brothers to take her.

That is why she was here, with a crowd that seemed to get smaller every time they gathered; and, even then, so many had such hostile eyes. Cowards, she remembered. She would never forget that. Never. Snakes in the grass, trampled underfoot by great steeds, and beheaded by the wolf's sharp teeth.

In front of her, the head shaman steps forth, raising his gnarled hands up high to the roof, and an errant thought escapes the carefully constructed bundle of her mind: thin glaze is not sky, and cold gold is not sun.

"Let us give thanks, and let us pray..."

Marina wakes up in a cold sweat and with tears in her eyes, whatever caused it melting away from her memories like snow in spring as she searches for her rosary.
marinabeauvais: (I must say that...)
Exactly what it says on the tin--these are the voices I use as reference regarding what Marina actually sounds like, except, you know, younger when needed.
Bonjour! )
Hola! )
Hello! )
As for Miss Danni Flint, this + more drunk-sounding, more slurred, etc. This is more what she would have sounded like without the vocal cord damage:
'ouldn' i' b' lo'e'ly? )
marinabeauvais: (Oh)
(Little known fact is this: I like money. So, here's Marina's earnings and expenditures. Hopefully it's kind of plausible.)

An Annual Income )

An Annual Budget )
marinabeauvais: (So you ARE an idiot.)
(You know those moments when you think of something totally in character for your...well, character, whether description or turn of phrase, but you have no appropriate place to put it?

Well, screw you dissenters (not really), I do. As such, this post. Will of course be added to sometimes; a few might even be used.)

In many ways, they'll miss the good old days... )

'The irony of it: the Masters themselves would not be inconvenienced! But their designs, their enterprises, their iron grip on the populace... oh, yes, that will certainly be interrupted. So not a word. Soon, my friend. Soon.'

Marina does not trust this man with whom Danni had scheduled a meeting with, this thin, bald man with brown skin and a oily smile focused entirely at the bag she held, the eyeless skulls knocking together with her every motion. His gaze was hungry, like a cat self-assured in its own power as it cornered its prey, his eyes cruel and bright even in the dim gaslight.

I am not his prey, she tried to remind herself. I am not what he is seeking, or what he is truly paying attention to.

The thought was meant to reassure; instead, it made the bones she was carrying feel even heavier.

Behind her, oddly silent, Danni leaned against the lamppost.

'We were very close to the Nadir once. Very close. If we could work there... not only would we be certain of safety from discovery, but the energies of the place. The energies! The Device's power would be unmatched. Even the Mountain...eh, those same energies would destroy us before we could finish. And we'll never find the place.'

Character Sheet Last Updated: June 27, 2015
Name: Danni Flint
Approximate Age: Mid to late tens...?
Gender Presentation: Female.
Height: Around 5'5.
Build: A bony sort of girl at first glance, but has limbs seemingly made of lean, corded muscle. Skin pulls taut over her body, with the sort of paleness that tells you she's never seen the sun.
Hair: Dark, rough, and of a reasonable length, usually tucked in under a hat or stuck up roughly with pins. Rather flyaway and whispy, it has become a lot cleaner since being taken in/coerced into servitude by Marina.
Eyes: Brown and always full of base cunning, akin to a grass snake.
Dress Style: Amost always wears the same orange dress that, due to hasty repairs over years, has become a multicoloured patchwork of clashing fabrics and styles, along with a dirty white kerchief with dark grey polka dots that is always knotted firmly around her neck. When going out, she wears a bottle green felt cap, which, though dusty, is in surprisingly good condition, as well as a long brown coat rather too short for her dress. Wears boots if she has to, but generally likes going barefoot, a habit picked up from not so long ago. If she needs to blend in even more, she always has a pile of dirty, ragged, and generally tattered clothes at hand.
Distinguishing Features: Nothing much--just how she likes it. Until you hear her talk, of course...
Notable Possessions: A sharpened knife she always keeps on her person. Though technically not a possession, she has a habit of muttering under her breath the many old urchin songs she recalls from her rather recent childhood, including the ones that people say are 'maniac's prayers'. A single clay jar with a Primordial Shriek rattling inside.
Manner of Speaking: Breezy, singsong, generally straightforward. Her accent sounds like she has a bunch of marbles in her mouth.
General Attitude: Teasing, bouncy, irreverent; tries to be polite among the decent company her employer has around, and contrary to what one might think she actually does respect Marina a little bit. However, she truly is at home mingling, drinking, and fighting with the people of Fallen London lower on the ladder that what Marina can bear
General Impression: Mostly harmless, if impolite, but there is something about that sharp smile of hers...
'ey! )
marinabeauvais: (Well)
A companion drabble (204 words...a record for me) to the Eskil reviving logs.

marinabeauvais: (That is quite patently untrue.)
Note: these aren't the exact contents of Marina's wardrobe, at least where dresses are concerned--she's not made of money. Instead, this is a general gist of what she would wear, in what shades, etc. Everything else, though, is fair game.

Map

Essentially a map of places in Fallen London, so I can remember where they are if I ever need to. Will be added on to as needed.
marinabeauvais: (Well)
The only concession to cheerfulness in the darkness of the isolated cottage is the mailbox, leaning haphazardly in the soft ground. It is of a brilliant sky blue colour, a shade that would be instantly recognizible to people of Marina's kind--one half-expected to see horses rearing defiantly, or perhaps a stylized orange sun, both glowering at the rare person who made their way up the path from dank, silent corners. It would certainly fit with the Frenchwoman's occupation, after all.

You would be correct, though you would not know it; it was not visible to the eye. But, regardless, one wouldn't be thinking of such things when stuffing their load into the battered old mailbox that belonged to a notoriously paranoid woman living at a notoriously out of the way locale.

(Mail stuff goes here, I guess.)
